Apple 重回 EPEAT 綠色認證，坦承退出是錯誤決定

先前 Apple 才被 踢爆新款 Macbook Pro Retina 沒有獲得 EPEAT 認證，也報導未來 Apple 產品將不會進行 EPEAT 認證。 宣示已重回 EPEAT，並表示先前退出是錯誤的決定。

本月初才發生  (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool，電子產品環境影響評估工具)綠色認證、的消息，可能是得到眾多的反彈聲浪，以及美國許多的學校和政府單位，採購部門購買 IT 產品必須擁有 EPEAT 認證的影響，不到一周竟出現180度大轉變，Apple 表示將重回 EPEAT 認證。

Apple 硬體工程資深副總裁 Bob Mansfield 也在：

We’ve recently heard from many loyal Apple customers who were disappointed to learn that we had removed our products from the EPEAT rating system. I recognize that this was a mistake. Starting today, all eligible Apple products are back on EPEAT.

It’s important to know that our commitment to protecting the environment has never changed, and today it is as strong as ever. Apple makes the most environmentally responsible products in our industry. In fact, our engineering teams have worked incredibly hard over the years to make our products even more environmentally friendly, and much of our progress has come in areas not yet measured by EPEAT.

Bob Mansfield 在信中提到最近獲得許多忠實顧客反應，表示對於得知 Apple 退出 EPEAT 認證系統表示相當失望。我承認這是個錯誤的決定，從今天起，所有合格的 Apple 產品將重回 EPEAT 認證。Bob Mansfield 表示 Apple 對於環境保護的承諾一直未有所改變，也不忘提及 Apple 對於環保的積極作為，例如他們是領導 BFRs (brominated flame retardants) 和 PVC (polyvinyl chloride) 等有毒物質從生產標準中移除的公司，也是唯一會對每件產品的溫室氣體排放量(greenhouse gas emission)作全面記錄的公司，同時 Apple 產品盡可能移除塑料，改以可高度回收、更耐用的材質。此外 Apple 所生產的電腦也都符合能源之星 ENERGY STAR 5.2 標準。Apple 重回 EPEAT 之後，將會與 EPEAT 變得更加緊密，並期待 EPEAT 以及底層 IEEE 1680.1 標準的演變。

小編認為 Apple 大動作回歸 EPEAT ，恐怕還是與為了挽回名聲脫離不了關係。先前舊金山市府首席資訊官 Jon Walton 在受訪時，指出 Apple 在退出  EPEAT 之後，舊金山的50個政府部門、28,000名員工皆不得使用公費購買 Apple 產品。考量全美多數政府和學校單位皆必須採購 EPEAT 認證產品，退出 EPEAT 恐怕對於 Apple 產品的銷售和名聲都有重大影響。
