除了APK被替換為新的AAB格式外，如果應用程式的容量大於150MB，開發者必須改用Play Asset或Feature Delivery格式來取代舊的 OBB（大型擴展檔案）格式。同樣，改用AAB格式來取代過去的ZIP格式，用於帶給使用者更快更新的「即時體驗」。不過，現有的應用程式以及管理企業使用者的私人應用程式被豁免不需要改用AAB格式。
